Joyfully married, queer, Christian. We are not required to be small-minded in order to embrace basic common values of hard work, respect, civility, faith, and kindness.
Don't misunderstand. I don't like DJT and I believe we're heading into a mess. But what we need to do is step back and take care of one another. We need support, encouragement, and kindness, not more ragemongering and hatred and vitriol.

I'm also thankful that I get to share my life with the love of my life and with six beautiful fur babies who never allow me to wonder if I'm loved. After all, isn't being loved what we all need?

The first part of this makes absolutely no sense linguistically. But it's clear that all you want to do is argue. If you'd like to follow me and comment you are welcome to do so, but understand that baiting for argument will find you blocked. Have a good night.

I wonder, how much experience do you have with devout Muslims? How about devout Orthodox or Hasidic Jews? Devout Hindus? Buddhists? There are plenty of folks from across the religious and non-religious spectrum who are homophobic. Including atheists. Hatred will always seek an excuse.

Because at end of day there is much of value there. And it has been and remains (at least in potential) a net positive. You are striving for argument. You acknowledge that I've answered your query. Please respect my desire to not argue.

If that were true, it would be odd. But close to half the world's population claims some sort of Abrahamic religion, and would certainly take issue with being labeled as barbaric. Much of East Asia is Buddhist, with no specific prohibitions on queer sexuality...

I cannot speak to what those who are nonreligious have as motivation or not. But I can say that Christian homophobia is deeply rooted in 2,000 years of flawed theology fixed firmly in horrible comprehension of ancient Hebrew, Greek, and early Christian thinking and language.

Again, I don't belong to a church. For the record, my higher education is in theology, with my MDiv in first-century Jewish Christianity and a post-grad certificate in Urban Mission and Chaplaincy. I'm from a Methodist/Episcopal background with education consistent with that. Let's chat.

There are lots of reasons to pretend to be christian. But I use quotes not to imply pretending, because many of those people genuinely believe they are. They've been spoon-fed really bad theology from birth. They believe it. But that doesn't make it fact.

I am christian, and I do have a very high view of scripture, but I also know that it must be understood and it's historical, cultural, and linguistic context. Your summation removes all context. I believe that scripture is a record of people's perceptions of their encounter with God.

I'm just curious, and I mean this genuinely, do you understand that much of Hebrew and Christian scripture dates to times in which pretty much everyone would be considered a barbarian by modern standards? I'm not justifying what was, just trying to keep it within its historical context.

I didn't say or imply all humans are evil. But we are indeed all capable of evil. For instance, Elon Musk is atheist, and his psyche is just as evil as any person claiming the name Christian. He's openly homophobic and transphobic. People blame religious beliefs for their own ugliness all the time

I'll reverse the question to you. Why is Jesus so off-putting (aside from the antics of those who choose to wear Christianity as a merit badge)?
November 23, 2024 at 6:46 AM
As to why him... You're right, that is deeply personal, and I refrain from proselytizing. I've heard enough so-called, stagy "testimonies" to make me want to poke my own eardrums out. However, if you genuinely want to know I'll answer
