Article 73 of the UN Charter would seem to be a good basis for such a protectorate!
"to ensure...their political, economic, social, & educational advancement, their just treatment, & their protection against abuses.. to assist them in the progressive development of their free political institutions"

Just found my photo - which I like - from a couple of years ago. From path to Iken, close to Snape Maltings. Not sure what bird this is - any advice?

"To kickstart the economy... use the power of Labour’s majority to rewire & restructure powerful institutions." @annpettifor.bsky.social criticizes OBR, Treasury, BoE policies as working against interests of the British people. In today's paper @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

While #Trump is in news (!), here's my post of earlier this week: "Trump – God’s chosen instrument? (For our destruction, that is)". Drawing on Genesis Ch 1, I interpret God's reasoning, using Trump as fast track to get rid of humans wrecking His planet [satire alert] refractions.org/post/7927826...

I always look to Sellar and Yeatman for historical accuracy on this period (and indeed on many periods of proud English history).

I was however a little surprised to see their learned opus claimed as "an early post-modernist text" in Wikipedia.

Well.. the full moon still rose in August over Sizewell's Sea [my pic]...but the FT today asks
"Is the UK’s giant new nuclear power station ‘unbuildable’?
Meant to withstand being hit by an aircraft, industry veterans warn of Sizewell C’s ‘terrifying’ complexity"

My latest [a wee bit sardonic] post: "Trump – God’s chosen instrument? (For our destruction, that is)". We were told, in Genesis Chapter 1 to "replenish" the Earth, not destroy & degrade it. God has had enough - sees Trump as a quick means to rid Earth of humankind. refractions.org/post/7927826...

"It comes as no surprise that the Trump administration seeks to take advantage of our growing political disunity... to pursue its strategic agenda of damaging & breaking the European Union, which it sees...

Still so: "The first object of any tyrant in Whitehall would be to make Parliament utterly subservient to his will; & the next to overthrow or diminish trial by jury, for no tyrant could afford to leave a subject’s freedom in the hands of 12 of his countrymen”

Agree, naturally, on this. Also, Thatcher (Lawson) + Big Bang/ post-1989 hubris - the heydey of credit-inflated neoliberalism. Recall this chart on private debt from 2011 Budget report, then cut out from future ones by Osborne as did not fit his 'public spending to blame for GFC' thesis.

And thank you! You may find the Wikipedeia entry, "1789 English cricket season" of interest. An English team was due to visit Paris in August & introduce the game...but the tour was cancelled due to the Revolution. Or so it is said (except by John Major, it seems). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1789_En....

Recall, ahem, @financialtimes.com named Trump "FT Person of the Year" on 19th Dec.

“Trump’s retribution will be a strong economy” says Susie Wiles, his 2024 campaign manager & incoming White House chief of staff. “Over time a lot of the strong feelings have gone away.”
