We *were* fighting Trump. He was losing! On the verge of losing SC case forcing him to send out SNAP and being blamed for holiday travel woes if he didn't give in. We were building on last week's momentum! This is momentum-destroying capitulation

They've already voted to cancel ACA subsidies and cut Medicaid. They're already on record. They'll just vote no again and move on. This is exactly nothing.

How do propose holding them accountable? The only leverage we had is being given away.

This is only true if recriminations have no influence on the saboteurs in our party, and it's clear they're cowards who will swing whichever way has the fewest recriminations. So the only way forward is to make them aware that the path of least resistance is to stand firm in future standoffs.

NYC has ~306k employees and the public advocate makes ~$184k. That extra $1.66 is going to make a big difference!

TBF, he did. He just dropped the misinterpreted slogan. He campaigned on keeping police force smaller than budgeted for (current level), disbanding certain units entirely, and introducing community safety department to shed police scope. Every other attack ad was about this.

Structure removes a lot of the ambiguity that's so draining in many social situations - it's clear what you're supposed to talk about, that people are there to hear it, and how the overall flow will progress.

Do they get concerned and start standing up or do they lean in and join the effort to destroy democracy because they know they can't win otherwise?

And while Adams' corruption is certainly a key element of his downfall, even before that he was deeply unpopular as his policies only succeeded in alienating the large majority Democrats while failing to make any Republican inroads.

The right will attack dem's approach to crime and immigration regardless of policy though - they'll always stake out a position to the right of anything that's constitutional and morally defensible. See how Eric Adams' hardline approach to both did nothing to assuage their view of NYC.

If only the NY Post editors would flee! They clearly would prefer living in a gated suburban community than a great city. Alas, neither is going to happen

An even clearer analogy is moving DOD funds around to pay active military. That's the same maneuver - but rather than being required by law in the case of SNAP, it's expressly against the law in the case of DOD.

Even if you ignore the fact that some of his "accomplishments" forced him to resign in disgrace, the guy actively fought against almost everything good NYS did during his terms as gov. He only supported legislation when convenient, propping up the IDC to limit progressive laws as much as he could.

This assumes that impact on voters is the goal. Gutting FEMA and screwing western NC shows he doesn't care about that. With a goal to punish those who threaten his power (the politicians + institutions) and incentivize them to bend the knee to minimize damage, it's working as intended.

One can hope that he's just avoiding picking fights at this stage of the campaign.

The only surprising thing here is that they haven't changed the test so that the right answer to every question is "I can do whatever I want as long as the victim isn't a white Republican"
