For over a century, Torontonians have gathered at Old City Hall to honour those who gave their lives in the defence of Canada. Each November 11, as wreaths are laid at the Cenotaph’s base, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the freedom they secured for generations to come.

Carved from solid Canadian Shield granite, its cornerstone was laid by Field Marshal Earl Haig on July 24, 1925.
The monument’s simple inscription "To Our Glorious Dead” was chosen to speak for all who never returned home, serving as an empty tomb for those buried overseas.

Yeah, the text that came with it is not quite right. I tried searching the newspapers to find the day it was published, but still haven't found it. Hoping to find more info soon.

The original 1852 structure was torn down by the 1950s, but the gates still stand on Queen Street as an entrance to Trinity Bellwoods park.

This original pond at Mount Pleasant Cemetery was created by damming Yellow Creek as part of the cemetery's original rural cemetery design, but it disappeared around the 1930s.

In recent years the open moat area was extensively renovated and enclosed from the elements with a glass roof. It now functions as a pedestrian pathway that includes retail space.
