Passive voice is far from the only trick. Try "alleged" or "allegedly", "a spokesperson", "according to a WH/Congressional source", "a senior figure in..." etc. etc.

Around 30 years ago, when I was conducting a series of interviews in Brazil, had a meeting with 4, white-haired, snr executives of a v. large Brazilian corporation (incl the CEO). We conversed in Portuguese but all 4 had heavy German accents. Left with a sense that I'd been talking with Nazis.
