We found:
- Most significant effects at γ-scale ;
- Studies mostly occurring during breeding season ;
- Most of heterogeneity metrics were related to landscape composition.

We tried to summarize the main landscape mechanisms.

To conclude a great week of #OIKOSFin2025, the presentation of my thesis results, talking about cascading effects of forest decline 🌲🌳💀 and natural disturbances on saproxylic beetles via changes in deadwood and tree-related microhabitats in several European forests ! 🪲

Her work focused on the effects of landscape clearcut accumulation over time on Finnish breeding birds. 🐦 One of main results is that old-growth forest specialists are not affected by short term but 📉 due to 20 yrs accumulation!

We also conducted a literature review listing how disturbance legacies (what remained and are transformed by the disturbance) affect arthropods in temperate forest 🌳. We also listed all the conditions that may affect the legacies or arthropod communities.

In Pyrenean-context only, we also explored the landscape effects of forest decline on local saproxylic beetle communities. Overall, we found positive decline effects at local and 200 m buffer scale. We also found positive effects up to 5000 m showing landscape importance. 🌲🏔️

These changes in habitat had effects on saproxylic beetles communities (beetles depending in deadwood substrate). We found overall positive effects on different guilds (e.g., cavicolous, red-listed, decayed deadwood specialists).

First, we measured the effects on the habitat (aka legacies). We found increased and diversified deadwood substrates in all context 🌲🌲🌳. In addition we found more saproxylic fungi in declining forests. Overall, decline induced an heterogenization of stand features.

We studied three contexts of forest decline in Europe: (i) drought-induced decline in Pyrenean fir-forests 🌲, (ii) drought induced decline in Loire oak-forests 🌳, and (iii) severe decline induced by bark beetles in Bavarian Spruce forests 🌲.
