This didn't solve capitalism or my relationship with it. But it gave me tools. It helped me understand how other people thought about the world &what informed those thoughts, which helped me relate to people different from myself.

Like Brennan, I hope to remain lifelong friends with my old profs <3

As they say in the video, philosophy isn't just for bearded sages and people with 10 degrees. This was community college, these discussions were held between working moms, immigrants, retired people coming back to school for fun, and young dorks like me trying to figure out their corner of the sky.

I was 20 years old and terrified. I didn't know what I wanted to do, and the thought of doing ANYTHING every day of my life in exchange for a lottery ticket filled me with horror. I NEEDED these points in my day where people would come together and discuss what it all might MEAN.

There was a period of my life where I had no idea what I was doing, and I dealt with this by taking every philosophy class at my community college. To say it changed my life would be an understatement.

Philosophy gave me my first tools to deal with the existential, capitalistic dread I felt daily.

The more this jokey discussion continues the more I'm convinced that this is actually a good idea, for people to come out in packs. It puts less emphasis on one individual going "against a norm" or whatever

This is a good time for it, if done well. I think about that scene where they make fun of the chancellor on the variety show. It's SO much like when Jon Stewart made all his set look gold, and acted like he was afraid of being tackled the whole time.

People really are like "Oh yeah, the thing that is ruining art, ruining online spaces, and making research hard? And killing the planet? And literally making us stupider?? Yes please"

It's never going to make sense to meeeee

I like the idea that they all coordinated. "If we all come out as trans at the same time, nobody will be weird about it."

God, I know this feeling. It's why I've stopped and started so much. I really admire the fact that you stream as often as you do, I have so much trouble getting over that hump. And you ARE good at it!! :)
