Are murder mystery shows cheating? Most of them follow the same beats every episode, and have minimal to no overall arc. For example, Poker Face comes to mind as a modern example.

Ha, I just read the chapter in Across the Board where you humorously introduce and describe Dr Irving Finkel and then I come across this! A lovely bit of writing and now a lovely bit of serendipity to round out that portrayal!

I use RideWithGPS, it has an app and web view. Probably the best thing about it is that it has heatmaps that show you where other cyclists go. It's kind of like tapping into the hive mind of the cycling community

Great post. I initially read it backwards (most recent on top), which made it seem like there were a number of recent nominations (though not proportional to the population obviously), but unfortunately it's worse when read correctly.

Great summary. I'm glad that you mentioned election reform, that's highest on my list of undelivered promises. Also agreed on the follow up points along with him staying on too long.

I'm curious how far down the rabbit hole this philosophy of avoiding games where you can "create your identity" goes. I assume any video game where you get to customize your character would be a definite no go. Boardgames that let you pick player colour? Safest bet would likely be to leave the hobby

The tip on using plastic coin holders also works great with Bullet ❤️. Given how tactile the game is, it's a great upgrade you can do yourself!

Also, not directly related, but if the goal is unearthing mechanics that could work for a future game design, solo games/variants often have a difficulty scaling option

Flamme Rouge recommends that experienced players add exhaustion cards to their hand when playing with new players.
And Mind MGMT has the "shift system" which gives the losing team a buff or the winning team a nerf.

Ha! I'm pretty sure my parents still have this in their basement (although a German version called "Kaspi"). I'm not sure if we ever had rules for the game, but we always had a blast playing it and capping other players to create a monster hat tower!
