after living here for almost 10 years I had no idea I was walking past Edmond Haley’s house and former observatory every day

referencing the rave Gandalf in order to explain the old irish deictic particle in class tomorrow
'Deictic' comes from Greek δεικνυμι meaning 'I show; therefore deictic particles show something. If you were pointing out a man wearing a full Gandalf costume breakdancing in the middle of the crowd at a concert, you'd poke your friend in the ribs, point, and say 'Wow, look at that guy. The deictic particle gets that pointing something out' sense across: it's stronger than just the word 'that' on its own.
