in our population, GxE interactions that would likely change selection decisions depending on the environments used for selection were rare, & unlike overall linear plasticity, plasticity in response to nitrogen fertilization was poorly repeatable w/in & across location-years. 5/6

In our population of 122 maize hybrids with mean parent release years as early as 1934 -- current commercial hybrids, we saw no clear tradeoff between linear plasticity and overall performance. We also show that 4/6

representing 34 unique environments (14 location-years x nitrogen treatments), including harvesting - and phenotyping - approximately 24,000 ears to help us understand the phenotypic plasticity of maize hybrids. 3/6

Lisa Coffey, Jon Turkus, Lina Lopez-Corona, Kyle Linders, Chidanand Ullagaddi, Dipak Santra, Pat Schnable, @szintri.bsky.social, and many, many more people combined to take on the big task of collecting 18 traits data from 6,000+ maize field plots across 700+ miles in Iowa and Nebraska 2/6
