Department of Military Operations launched an attack, involving tanks and artillery, on Huwayek, in order to gain control of the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Despite discussing Kurdish unity, motives are different. Abdi seeks support for survival of NE-Syria, while Barzani looks to take advantage of the fall of the Assad regime to increase influence with Kurds in Syria.

Katerji has a quasi-monopoly on oil transport from SDF areas and is a crucial player for fuel supply in Syria.

Municipal elections were held by AANES in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa. Elections were organised unannounced and discretely, despite US pressure and out of fear for Turkish threats and targeting.

Voting was limited to a small number of pre-selected candidates.

Sizable protest still is taking place in Suwayda, with protesters calling for the overthrow of president Assad and the regime.

Despite arrests, intimidation and assassination attempts still the longest uninterrupted protest in Syria since the start of the uprising in 2011.
