Germany went from being a power exporter to a power importer ⚡

Since the closure of their nuclear fleet the import/export balance has shifted drastically

They used to export a lot, while importing little. That trend has reversed

The yearly shift over the last 2 years is 50 TWh 🔌💡

Forecasting remains a challenge and is an expensive affair

When power plants are already running, having sold their power in the day-ahead market, or when weather forecasts incentivizes them to turn off in advance

It is the reaaally expensive power that is called upon when unexpected things happen

Balancing the grid is expensive!

Today our grid saw a sudden drop in wind production, sparking needs for activating large volumes of expensive mFRR up-regulation

The imbalance price rose to 1000 €/MWh for two hours!

Standby power plants ready to cover wrong wind forecasts charges an arm and a leg
