I don't disagree as default but I see it possible they create a crappy user option.
Modern Apple seems to be doing this regularly now in a way SJ-era Apple rarely did. The half-baked Home Screen icon size/tinting are already a step in this direction; doesn't seem far-fetched to imagine circle next.

Apple has a tool for this that gets a lot of the way, but there’s unfortunately non-trivial work in most cases. It’s gotten better with Manifest v3, but still getting add-ins working in Safari and in the App Store is real work (and requires $$ developer account.)

Apple has a tool for this that gets a lot of the way, but there’s unfortunately non-trivial work in most cases. It’s gotten better with Manifest v3, but still getting add-ins working in Safari and in the App Store is real work (and requires $$ developer account.)

At some startlingly late year like 2008 I found out that the original ASP code I wrote for this was still running in a Microsoft datacenter somewhere.
Alas, I'm certain it was gone shortly after that.

My first Microsoft intern project when I worked on Outlook during college was to create a vCard and vCal web service to allow for import/export of these formats to Outlook. Good times!
