The Pasadena Football Club defeated the Wilson School 12-0 in the first Tournament of Roses in 1890, arguably the first "Rose Bowl." But most of the early Tournaments dis not feature football - the big draw were the chariot races.

The Tournament of Roses was founded by a hunt club known for hunting rabbits, coyotes and mountain lions.

Invented in 1876, in Philadelphia, by the same man who invented the stapler. Later became known as oyster pails, but were also used for ice cream and other products. Used for Chinese takeout as early as 1914.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade made its debut in 1924. Originally called a Christmas Parade, it was intended to advertise the opening of Macy's annual Christmas window display.
