Carl Nielsen now has a delicious apple spirit named after him. Available from the Carl Nielsen museum in Odense (fun fact: subtitled "Bel Canto" after an odd drinking song he composed for a Copenhagen male choir)

In these dark times: A satisfying, calming photo taken yesterday of Finland's presidential couple skiing with the King and Queen of Denmark.
A new defence agreement between the two nations was signed the same day.

New release! I'm the proud editor of a book series on Danish composers. Vol. 23 features the crystalline modernist Axel Borup-Jørgensen (1924-2012). A groundbreaking biography by music journalist Anne E. Holm, based on the composer's manuscripts and private memoirs.

I'm in Estonia for a few days, a very lovely country where classical music has a large audience. Choral conductors and opera singers appear on TV alongside other celebrities, and arts magazines are sold at the bus station.
