This reads like a slightly gorier YA, with a lot of heart, a big cast of varied characters, & a heavy lean on rock and roll. There's a ton of 80s nostalgia, and I think folks from that era will be thrilled to see how well represented their lives might be within these pages.
A solid 3.5.

WOW what a comeback! This took me a few pages to get back into, but once it started rolling, the familiar horror from the woodland was all present and terrifying.
This is a second in what will be at least a three part series, and here there's everything to fear and nowhere to hide.

A study into the terrors of sleepwalking, with a side of loss and grief. The Night Guest leans into mental illness, and how one recovers from trauma after trauma (if you recover at all), and what that touches in our everyday lives.
Overall a 3.5 rounded to a 4 here.

What a whirlwind of emotion this was. There was terror, apprehension, but there was also trauma and love. Malerman lays out the family dynamic, and talks about the secrets we build our lives on, how they direct every step we take after. Incredible story, masterfully told

Heart breaking! This explores family relationships & beautifully illustrates that most loving bond between a pup & their person. It takes the terror that is normal puberty, and puts a cosmic spin from hell on it. Well written, fantastic characters and imagery. Solid five stars.

Two best friends make an unsettling discovery while on a hike, and it leaves one of them changed forever. This was fast paced, with great characters, and a folklore/myth l'd never heard of or seen done in literature before. Solid five stars, had a fantastic time with it.

Happy bookmail day to me!
Huge thanks to Tor Nightfire for this gorgeous ARC of @chucktingle.bsky.social upcoming release. This was one of my most anticipated releases for this year, and I cannot wait to see where Chuck takes us now.

Monsters everywhere, human and cosmic alike. Vulnerable children, abandoned by those who should love them. The real question is, can they overcome? Find out, June 11, 2024

I've quickly discovered that I love stories that involve any sort of folklore. This has one of my favorites in the baddie world of folklore, and is exceptionally well done. The cast of characters is varied enough, well fleshed out, and the story moves quick. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Girls just wanna have fun, right? Bloody, man-eating fun? I was very much wrong with my suspicions at the beginning of this book, but was in no way disappointed. It was bloody, fun, and very good for her. Four stars of happy! Really fantastic stuff @wendydalrymple.bsky.social ❤️

I so loved choose your adventure books as a kid, and didn't know adult horror based ones existed. I just finished TNTD at Dethfest and omg that was a ridiculous amount of fun.

I let my teen pick several of my choices, but between the two of us we died at least 15 times. Top notch, five star fun!😂

Dark, full of pain and hopelessness. This one is total, full on despair, from the bleak but ordinary beginning, to the inevitable and horrifying ending. Solid five star read, and a reason enough to look twice at the rain out your window.

Huge thanks to Douglas Wynne, Tor Nightfire, and Gretchen Felker-Martin. Can’t wait to dive into these!

Bounty hunters they were, traveling the Wild West, running from their personal demons.

A creature feature set in the quiet territory of a small western wilderness town, this was a hit! 10/10 solid writing, a great creature, and fun characters.

And there's my January wrapped up.
Life may have made January the longest month l've ever lived before, but these stories gave it life❤️

Vampire society lorded over a small, simple town. Folk convinced these killers are their gods, & willing to sacrifice their own to retain their protection.

This is the vampire story I’ve been looking for. 10/10, and probably my favorite by Fredrick Niles so far, and I so hope we see a follow up😍

"Her ribs jutted up out of her abdomen like some horrific copse of trees"

Cold Water Forest encompasses grief, fear, bravery, the cosmic unknown.

It does it all in 101 short pages, & leaves you in a state of wonder.

This was weird, out there, & terrifying. I loved it. 10/10, he does it again!

This was just incredible fun.
Marine scientists, another ridiculous community leader who listens to nothing, Nazi intrigue, and a terrifying creature on the loose-what could be better? 15/10, best way l've spent a rainy Saturday in ages!
If you've read both, how would you compare this to Beast?

Terrifying & heart breaking, this book does an excellent job recounting the history & legal processes of the cases.
There are, however, so many extra bits and pieces, that it was a bit of a chore to finish. My desire to see their victory kept me reading; it was humbling.

A tired town full of terrified people, a demon holding court over his subjects, and a bab where sin is welcome for business.
Solid four stars, with a slow start, and a large cast of often temporary characters. I'm interested to see where Eads goes next.

In a world where ghosts are as commonplace as neighbors and kittens, things seem very different.
Living is an unbelievable amount of work, and dying is where your life really begins. Families remain together for many generations, ghosts and breathers alike, until it starts. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
