After finishing A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab, I am so excited for the rest of this trilogy. Loved the characters, the fantasy worlds, magic, and the action-packed story lines. Highly recommend. 4.9 ⭐️s #booksky

I finished The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. As expected, it broke me. This is the 2nd book based on the Dozier “school” for boys I have read. It well researched historical fiction and beautifully written ugliness and horror with a twist at the end. Should be required reading. 4.8 ⭐️s. #booksky

Finished The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn this weekend. I enjoyed this one for the most part but thought the other books in her series about women in WWII were better. Interesting story about a Russian woman sniper who killed a bunch of Nazis that was largely based on her memoir. 3.9 ⭐️s. #booksky

I ❤️Tiffany D Jackson. Allegedly was a tough emotional read for me. It was an all too realistic psychological thriller about what happens to children with no stable adult support in their lives who get trapped in state supervision. The ending shocked and confused me. 4.2 ⭐️s #booksky

Finished All the Sinners Bleed by SA Cosby a couple of nights ago. It was’t my favorite of his but it was still really good. I like the way he situated thriller story in the racial tensions of a small Virginia town. Very well done. 4.3 ⭐️s #booksky

Ok I know. It’s McFadden. It’s not even the best McFadden or even better than the first Housemaid. But I desperately needed an easy thriller escape hatch after The Poppy War. Listen, it’s not literary greatness but it entertained me. Whatev. 3.5 ⭐️s #booksky

Finished The Poppy War by RF Kuang this evening and I am shook. I enjoyed it but the war scenes and themes of genocide and mass rape was tough to get through. I did like the mix of history and fantasy in the novel and will read the next in the series. 4.4 ⭐️s. #booksky

If you like toxic relationships between lesbian vampires across centuries, do I have the book for you. Finished up Bury Our Bones by VE Schwab last night. I enjoyed the character development and intertwining of stories over time but thought the book was a bit too long. 4.5 ⭐️ s #booksky

Can someone please just present this narcissist with a healthcare plan that looks exactly like the ACA with subsidies that are the same or better and call it TrumpCare?

Finished up the 2nd in the Vera Wong series Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping (on a Dead Man). I liked the 2nd better than the 1st. Sutanto does a good job of mixing heartwarming characters, a murder mystery, and modern problems of social media and human trafficking. 4 ⭐️s. #booksky

Just finished up John Scalzi’s The Last Colony. Was glad to see the return of John Perry, Jane Sagan, and Zoë to the series. One thing I didn’t get was the appearance of the werewolf creatures on Roanoke that killed some colonists and never returned. 🤷‍♀️ It was a quick, fun read. 3.8 ⭐️s. #booksky

My latest read was Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q Sutanto. It was a cute romantic murder mystery with some interesting characters and Asian cultures set in the Bay Area. It was a quick, fun little read. Will read the next in the series. 3.8 ⭐️s #booksky

Finished Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary tonight. I have to say that the meburger at the end really grossed me out. Haha. I’m sure that this will make a really great movie and I can’t wait to see it. Rocky was just so adorable. 4.5 ⭐️s #booksky

I finished The Reformatory by Tananarive Due today. This is one of the most horrific books I have read but it was also one of the best. I could not put it down even though it was filled with one horror after another. A must read for me. 5 ⭐️s. #booksky

Just finished Code Name Hélène by Ariel Lawhon a historical fiction novel about a fascinating Australian woman who participated in the French resistance against the Nazis and became a general of sorts of the maquisards during WW2. Very well-researched and moved pretty quickly. 4.25 ⭐️s. #booksky

I don’t know how to explain how good My Friends by Fredrik Backman is. It made me feel every human emotion possible. I was laughing, crying, fuming, alive, just so very alive. The characters are 🤌. I didn’t want it to end. 5 ⭐️s. Highly recommend #booksky

100 pages or so in and I can already tell it’s going to be one of my favorites of all time. “That’s why the children on the painting are so important that they’re protected by guards, but the children on the pier in real life could die without anyone even caring.” #booksky

I think King of Ashes by SA Cosby could have a sequel. That’s the only reason I didn’t give it the full 5 ⭐️ s. The ending left me hanging a little and there could be a new beginning to another book. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking. #booksky

Finished King of Ashes by SA Cosby last night. I love his writing style and the story was action-packed and fast-paced. Honestly didn’t want to put it down. Loved the references to The Wire too. 4.9 ⭐️s #booksky

Katabasis is one of the prettiest books I have ever seen. I love RF Kuang and Babel is one of my favorite reads of all time. This one took awhile to grab my attention. It got better towards the middle. I didn’t love it as much as Babel but I still enjoyed it. 4 ⭐️s. #booksky

Just finished the 4MK serial killer trilogy finale The Sixth Wicked Child. While I didn’t give the first two books super high marks the cliffhangers kept me going and this third book in the series had me on the edge of my seat. So the series and the final book get 4 ⭐️s. Thrilling. #booksky

Ok yeah I know. Freida McFadden books are what they are. They’re quick formulaic thriller books but I generally enjoy them for when I am tired on a weeknight. The Surrogate Mother was just ok for me. Not one of my favorites but not the worst either. 2.8 ⭐️s #booksky

I ❤️ Tiffany D Jackson. Just finished Blood in the Water. Although it was intended for a younger YA audience, I enjoyed it. It was a nice quick-paced murder mystery. I liked The Weight of Blood a bit better so this one gets 4⭐️s but i can’t wait to get Allegedly stil on hold. #booksky

Finished 11/22/63 today. I’m not a big Stephen King reader but everyone says this is one of his best, and I did enjoy it. Kept me page turning and it was well researched. 4.25 ⭐️s. Would recommend. Wondering if I should watch the TV series now. #booksky
