A bird tried to enter my car today. It’s been a *week* and not a short one either, but I’m taking this as a good omen.

Last night I was reminiscing about my year living abroad when I was 23 and came across this picture of me as a total qt 🥹🥹🥹Unbothered! Moisturized! Thriving! Manifesting this state of being again for some point in my future. Maybe not right now, but at some point 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

My Netgalley haul is not playing around this year 🔥🔥🔥

My favorite books I read this year, frontlist first then backlist 💁🏻‍♀️📚✨

My favorite backlist books I read this year 📚

My last book of the year, because the title is too perfect not to stop right there and call it a year.

Last day of #LibFaves24! THE MESSAGE by Ta-Nehisi Coates asks hard questions and demands that we confront our discomfort with them, and then sit with that discomfort along with the author. Ta-Nehisi Coates has the voice of a poet and it's always a privelege to listen to him read his work on audio.

Day 9 of #LibFaves24! PICK THE LOCK by A.S. King is a powerful, provocative, and utterly propulsive YA book about domestic abuse in different forms, and especially about emotional, psychological, and physical abuse of women. It's an essential conversation starter.

Day 8 of #LibFaves24! THE MIGHTY RED by Louise Erdrich is chock full of Louise's unique brand of humor, wry & irreverent & offbeat. Her characters are so distinctive, so lived-in, so utterly themselves and unlike anyone else's characters. I had some issues with this book, but it was worth the ride.

Day 7 of #LibFaves24! THE WEDDING FORECAST by Nina Kenwood is my favorite romcom of the year....which is why it's such a shame that it's only available in Australia at this time 😭 If you can get your hands on this book, do it by any means necessary. It is an unmitigated delight from start to finish!

Day 6 of #LibFaves24! INTERMEZZO by Sally Rooney blew me away on audio. The raw emotional arc of this story grabbed me by the feels and didn't let go the entire time. I recommend it on audio for the accents and how well the narration style suits Rooney's stylistic narrative choices in this one.

Day 5 of #LibFaves24! THE MINISTRY OF TIME by Kaliane Bradley is one of those books I'd recommend specifically on audio because the accents are so great. It's not super heavy on its time travel element and is more interested in asking social questions, which is how I prefer my science fiction.

Day 4 of #LibFaves24 where librarians count down their 10 favorite books of 2024! If I had to choose a favorite book from this year, it'd probably be THE WEDDING PEOPLE by Alison Espach. It's one of those books that expertly blend sadness with absolute hilarity and I had the most fun reading it.

Day 3 of #LibFaves24 where librarians count down their 10 favorite books of 2024! BEAUTYLAND by Marie-Helene Bertino was my best surprise of the year. It's marketed as scifi but I'd argue that it's more coming of age litfic, and a transcendently beautiful one at that. An otherworldly achievement.

Day 2 of #LibFaves24 where librarians count down their 10 favorite books of 2024! YOU ARE HERE by David Nicholls was the first book of this year that I truly loved. It's the perfect romcom for introverts, and my favorite British romcom of the year. Just a really good time!

It's the first day of #LibFaves24 where librarians count down their 10 favorite books of 2024! Mine are no particular order bc this year was so good for books that ranking them feels futile. First up is MARGO'S GOT MONEY TROUBLES by Rufi Thorpe! The voice-iest book I’ve read in a while, I adored it.

‘tis the season for short and cozy books in my house, and this classic fave fits the brief perfectly. The book discussion group at my library chose it for their December read next week and reminded me just how much I love this little treasure of a book ✨✨✨

The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer is the perfect read for this post-Thanksgiving holiday season, being about gift economies, anti-consumerism, and the lessons we can learn from ecology in this season and every season of life.

Chanukah came early this year 🙌🏻

I'm grateful for the books and the writers who ask the hard questions and are willing to sit with the discomfort of that, and invite us to do the same.

When Louise Erdrich publishes a new book in time for Native American Heritage Month, you can bet I spend my Novembers reading her new books. I really loved these last two of hers, and they were both fantastic on audio. She’s a national treasure, a true gem!
