It’s always a real treat to loose myself in a larger illustration, and this character owl for my lovely friend @emlusby.bsky.social was an absolute delight to work on. #birdart

Ahh..the Yorkshire coast in autumn.

Last year I was lucky enough to see spectacular numbers of winter thrushes spiraling down out of the clouds @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social. I’m so grateful for these little mental treasures that I keep safe and unwrap when I need them most! #birds

WARNING - severe trip hazard alert!! 🐶.
.
Theres a reshuffle going down in the studio this morning. The Beaglebum is being decidedly unhelpful. Surely it’s time for her annual review? Her self motivation needs some work that’s for sure, and her health and safety training might need an update!

There is also a back catalogue of original pen illustrations now available in ye olde webbe shoppe. Multitudinous birds and beasties. Many with added nonsense. Made myself feel sick thinking of how many hours work there is in this little lot. Swing by and check them out ⬇️

Patiently waiting for cooler weather to get the Etching press out again….its been far far too long. Pens are great but sometimes I need to wield a pointy stick and a scalpel!! #birds #birdart #barnowl #drypoint

Otter Magic @northcavewet.bsky.social this afternoon.

There aren’t many issues in my overactive noggin that can’t be fixed by a bit of yorkshire coast air and the sound of kittiwakes, and because I couldn’t get there in person today, this seemed like a good backup plan. I wonder if you can buy guano scented feed diffusers to complete the illusion..?

Busy working away on some vintage map drawings over summer for a webshop update in autumn. This ones a biggie…but here’s a wee detail from a quiet corner. #birds

Little owl staring down the week @northcavewet.bsky.social this morning. Cuckoo, Bittern, Hobby, Marsh Harriers, Grasshopper warbler and a whole host of others. Fabulous visit.

Last commission for a wee while, and this was an absolute gift to work on. Such a beautiful old map found by the clients. Happy faces all round on collection day. Now to put pens down and my hands on ice for a day or two.

It has been an absolute privilege to work on this very special map drawing for a lovely family, to celebrate the life of their late father/father-in-law Peter Harrison. ⬇️

Sand Martins peppering the precious Northumbrian dunes with their frantic activity last week. On every beach walk, their chattering was a constant pleasure. #birds!

Back to birds…and a 3 tern lineup at @rspb.bsky.social Coquet Island on Tuesday. Those Roseate Terns really glow!! #birds!

I keep Bluesky for my bird stuff, but if any of you lovely folk live in E. Yorks or Hull…my illustration work has taken an unexpected turn with this 6ft tall rat sculpture for the Mischief Of Rats trail which launched on Saturday. “Rats Ahoy” Is situated on Nelson street. Check out the website!

Downed the pen and pencil and took up Binoculars and Camera for a week in Northumbria.
Grasshopper Warblers were a beautiful feature…though as I can still hear them now I’m home, I am slightly concerned they have done something sinister to my brain!! #birds!

A little (well quite big for me actually) piece of joy from last autumn, as I try to distract myself from incredibly non arty admin, and beat down the desire to pick up my bins and skive off work.

A winter thrush kerfuffle on the East Coast of Yorkshire. #birds #birdart

Whilst I spend most of this week dithering around trying to organise various bits of gallery stuff, here are a few more drawings I did following an amazing week in the highlands in February. #birds #birds🦉

Birders love lenses…binoculars, scopes, cameras all getting us closer the action…I admit I love these too.
But I also have a VERY technical piece of kit on my desk that’s especially useful when trying to draw tiny birds…or in this case tiny versions of Huge birds!! #birds #birdart

I think I’m going to leave this one here before it gets cluttered.

A single Sooty and a scattering of Manx Shearwaters casting their wings against the waves and wind of the sea on this antique map 🌊 oh, and one of the stupidly tiny pens I use for drawing left in for scale. 📏 #birds #birdart

A way to go with this antique map drawing yet. Sooty & Manx Shearwaters suggested by @markthebirder.bsky.social …putting me and my pens to the test, but loving every minute of the process. #birds #seabirds #pelagic #shearwater #illustration #birdart

Crossbills on the drawing board…working from reference photos taken by my lovely fellow classmates during “School Of Birding”.

Extra special to draw the actual bird you watched while shivering in the highlands, a frozen chocolate hobnob in your paw! #birds! #scottishwildlife #birdart

Two little Moray Firth vintage map pieces adorned with tiny Long Tailed Duck pen drawings, sent off to the wonderful leaders of “School Of Birding” following a fabulous highlands trip earlier this month.

These ducks are now hitting the heady heights of my top of the Ducks list!! #birds!
