Cheating a bit for #WildflowerHour - slim pickings this week, so rather than showing a yet another humble yarrow, I opted for these lovely (post-flower) rowan berries after a night’s rain @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social

We also have the live London Underground map - a thing of beauty (except during strikes!)

TLDR - microenvironment matters, to bacterial biology as well as to treatment response. Have a read and let us know what you think!

For #WildflowerHour this week, one I’m pretty sure about (left, Sphagneticola trilobata, Bay Biscayne creeping-oxeye), and one I’d appreciate help on (right) - some sort of willowherb / Epilobium? Both from estuary Kent. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Thanks for the tip – worth another try. Obviously we wouldn’t be growing them for the saffron, but I love flowering bulbs in pots as as well as in the ground. A few months ago in Oxford, I was blown away by how well they do there.

Due to intense academic stress, I’m about a week and a half late forcing my Christmas paper-white narcissus bulbs this year. Banishing these guys to the dark garage and hoping for the best – otherwise they will be New Year’s blooms!
