3 years is still a very short span of time for a property’s value to double, but as the article mentions, the market has been incredibly hot on the South and West Sides since Covid. IHS’ SFH index has seen a 97% increase in Englewood/Grand Crossing, for ex. housingstudies.org/releases/coo...

Streetsblog did this, his response was basically that legislators are busy this summer and the fiscal cliff deadline is 12/31 so he says they’ll get it done in October. Your guess is as good as mine as to the subtext, but I’d bet they aren’t close to 60 votes yet chi.streetsblog.org/2025/08/06/s...

Similar signs have been up in the windows of businesses along the west side of Broadway for a couple months — here’s an example in the Patio Beef window. Not sure who’s organizing the campaign, but Patio Beef hosted a small rally in their parking lot

That lane looks like it's still marked as "protected" on the map, has anything changed since the Streetsblog article was published in February 2024 or is the map just wrong?

Not a particularly sophisticated approach, but here's the North Side paired with @bunkum.us's dot density map based on the 2020 Census

Note that this is not quite The One Map™ since the West Side actually has decent coverage for greenways and protected lanes outside of a bald spot around West Humboldt. The South Side is uniquely lacking safe bike infra in a way that doesn't neatly align with the usual trends of disinvestment

A tale of two cities, Chicago bike edition: On the left is CDOT's map of bike infrastructure on the North Side, and on the right is the South Side. Even without the legend, you can tell that these are two different worlds, with I-55 acting as a border between them

You can tell a lot about municipal priorities in Chicago and Montreal by comparing the two cities’ “Green Alley” programs. Chicago’s program funds better types of concrete pavement (left), while a program with the same name funds people-first green spaces in Montreal (right)

Walking 20min down Randolph from Millenium to Ogilvie for a perfectly timed ME ➡️ UP-N transfer, thinking about how one day when we #BuildTheTunnel and make this a one-seat ride we will gain a convenient way to get from Hyde Park to Edgewater but lose the opportunity for a pleasant stroll in the rain

The CCAO uses the “allocation” approach for residential parcels, meaning the office sets fixed $/sqft land rates for areas then apportions land/building value based on the total predicted value
