We have a cover for Ancient Egypt in Video Games! Out either late 2025 or early 2026 - will post a link with contents once it’s up on the DeGruyter website.
I’m very excited that this is soon out in the world!

I’ve slowly been writing a TTRPG based on the Battle of Qadesh (Egyptians v Hittites).
I’m interested in game-making-as-research-process, so have been recording my questions, led by the requirements of the game.
Inspired by @florencesn.bsky.social I’ve been distilling these into mini zines.

If you’re lucky enough to meet @florencesn.bsky.social at a conference, or wherever, make sure to grab one of their zines. Great little pieces of research communication and great for thinking about how you distill info/work.

I’m having fun playing with zone as a way to communicate info in a neat little bundle. A few tweaks to make, and then to decide what to do with them!

Thoughts welcome!

Everything, eventually, is an Egypt game.
Locked up in the Vault in Blue Prince (Dogubomb, 2025), you can find a statue of Anubis.

"Knower or letters", the woman Aurelia Charite daughter of Amazonios.
Charite is an example of a literate woman from Roman Egypt. This papyrus, a receipt for a paid lease from 348CE, was written by a scribe, but she wrote the last two lines (clearly distinguishable by their larger size).

Excited today to receive my complementary copy of issue 18 of Senet, the board game magazine. It has an article on Egypt games, written by Dan Thurot, who interviewed me for my thoughts on Egypt board games, based on my research on the topic.
Check it out if you can!!

Started playing Run from Mummies (2024) today. Only a few levels in but the game does some interesting things that go beyond the cheap tropes of the title/title screen.
(The upside of sick leave and recovering from surgery is catching up on some #archeogaming)

How’s 2025 going so far for everybody? I hope less gnarly than for me! Surgery tomorrow for my broken ankle.
Looking forward to quality reading time over the coming weeks while I recover.

Translation from Lise Manniche's 'An Ancient Egyptian Herbal' (1989)
I've been researching plant-based medicine as part of an analogue game I'm currently designing (TTRPG) – games research has led me down paths I haven't visited since a student or for teaching purposes!
