Sedation is an essential tool for rhino 🦏 conservation, but how can stress be minimised for the animals?

In this #ConPhysinAction article, Jennifer Cocciardi explains how drugs can be combined for safe & effective immobilisation, as reported by Boesch et al.

Really excited to see our perspective on how urbanization affects species interactions out in Nature Cities, hoping to inspire more research on this topic. Hard team work led by former postdoc Pablo Moreno-García. Feel free to discuss! rdcu.be/eyjBj www.nature.com/articles/s44...

This was such a fun opportunity to write a Conservation Physiology in Action article for @conphysjournal.bsky.social ! Give it a read if you're interested in rhino conservation!

Please check out this timely and important piece on how war, politics, and religion influence evolution in urban environments - led by the amazing @ecarlen.bsky.social!

How amazing to be included in this group of researchers and play a small part in this ☺️

In this review at Nature Cities, led by @ecarlen.bsky.social we explored how religion, politics and war drive urban wildlife evolution by shaping environmental conditions and selective pressures. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

New paper in @nature.com led by @patricepottier.bsky.social! We demonstrated global vulnerability of amphibians to warming, threatening 10% of >5,000 species examined. How did we do it? See thread🧵

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds.

This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

Despite rescinding the original memo, the NSF continues to comply with the federal funding freeze and have not communicated with us on timeline... leaving many PRFBs without pay. Also, it seems that many Universities are unaware this is happening... spread the word

I'm very sad that "I have a paper on this" continues

Funding delays of > 30 days lead to, after 5 years:

- 40% increase in scientists exiting US labor force (constrained among those born in the US)
- 20% decrease in wages
- Burden is born by postdocs, grad students, and staff
It’s official: all funding requests made on Tuesday by postdocs for their salaries have been unilaterally rejected by NSF.

The ACM$ is still down, and postdocs continue to receive cancelation notices for requests for funding.

NSF has seemingly pushed through with their freeze on fund disbursement, even in spite of the court’s challenge and subsequent “unfreeze” announced yesterday.
To update people on the NSF PRFB situation: despite the court challenge and rescinding the original memo, the NSF has continued to comply with the executive order. They have not communicated with us at all and our paychecks are still canceled indefinitely. I know people who cannot pay their rent.
