I had a project in Central Oregon this weekend. Spent quite the time working on that, which was fun! Also visited family, which was lovely as always.

I was able to sneak away for a bit for a short hike at Smith Rock State Park! Someday when I have more time I will go back to further explore!

Another fantastic home I recently photographed! This home is in Newport on the south side of the bridge. Close to the Aquarium, Hatfield, Rogue Brewery, Newport Candy, and the beach. Stunning bridge and bay views.

When people think of Washington or Oregon, they think of rain, green, and trees/forests. That is often the case.

But these two states are far more diverse.

Take a look at these photos from Sun Lakes State Park. This is part of the Grand Coulee area.

I really need to pull out my old cameras again.

4 photos. Shot using 3 different cameras.

The Lighthouse (Yaquina Head) used a Kodak Brownie Special 620

The Battery (Fort Casey) used a Kodak Brownie 2A Model B (116 film)

The family (my sister’s) and the barn used a Kodak Motormatic 35.

The guns are long gone. The batteries are missing a vital piece of their story. These two static displays illustrate how the weapons were used. They were stored hidden and low. They were loaded, then cranked up to be fired. The recoil from firing would send it back to and lock into resting position.

Battery 248 at Fort Ebey was designed in a similar fashion to other Batteries. Be present, observe, and able to protect without being seen. Photo 1 looks inland with red indicating gun locations. 248 is between these two locations. photos 2 3 and 4 are gun spots and general view.

Fort Ebey was one of the last forts built as part of the Puget Sound Harbor Defense, operated by the US Army Coastal Artillery Corps. Built in 1942, only to be listed as surplus in 1947, decommissioned in 1948. Now a state park, Battery 248 remains as a primary attraction for visitors to explore.

These batteries are part of retired US Army Coastal Artillery Corps installations built around 1900 (give or take a few years) around the Salish Sea.While very modern and advanced at the time, they quickly went obsolete, even prior to WWII.But it wasn’t until after the war they were decommissioned.

This is just one of many sound clips of the owl activity right near our camp. This is a bit more traditional owl hooting with a slight creepiness to it. A far cry from the screeching I am used to. But this is still really cool! #owls #deceptionpass #whidbeyisland

It is the artist (photographer) who makes things work. But Having the right tools can make a difference in your learning. For watercolor painting you need 100% cotton paper. Which can be expensive. I love this line as it is an affordable option!! Not high end, but an excellent entry point!

Be okay with imperfections. And learning.
And maybe your style may be different than everyone else’s.
I know I can definitely improve upon my painting skills, but I also know I am most likely not going to be a super realistic painter.
So…here is another lighthouse. Just have fun with it. I did

Too bad this beach isn’t a real place. It would make a good vacation spot.

A break from photography today.

I pulled out my acrylic paints and brushes. Realized my brushes are in super bad shape. But I am not going to let that stop me!

Started this 5x5 on canvas…..a work in progress.
