Horror scholar, found footage researcher and sci-fi/fantasy writer. If my responses seem strange, it's either the autism, the trans, or I've gotten distracted thinking about Pathologic again.
Went minigolf. Did bad.

If you could commission one fictional character to fix the US political problems, who would it be?

The most dangerous side-effect of hormone therapy: being drawn to mirrors like a fucking parakeet.

Also not sure why my hand looks so skeletal in my pocket

Last one: character-heavy sapphic romantasy: Dishonored x Locke Lamora x City of Last Chances x Rick and Evie O'Connell. Anti-imperialism! Pro-community action! SMUT! #lgbt #a #rm #2025pit

The Terror x The Fisherman x Mugen Train

Unhinged socialist revolutionary seeks naval corruption aboard ship in the Arctic, finds demonically possessed vessel, broken monsters made of crew and a lil gay romance. Erebus and Terror with an autistic sharpshooter and positive trans rep #HF #H #A

When the delicate balance of corruption is disrupted by eldritch-power-wielding warlords ‘The Twins’, thief Nightjar and thief-catcher Illyana have to set aside their lethal cat-and-mouse game to try and survive while their feelings for each other grow too strong to ignore #LGBT #A #RM #2025Pit

Best Re-read - The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. It was this, The Night Lords trilogy by Dembski-Bowden or Cold Forge. In the end, the dense interweaving of politics, history, cultural perspective and warfare from alternating perspectives won out

Best non-fiction - Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham. The failure of Reactor 4 is one of my hyperfixations and Higginbotham delivers, providing tons of nuance to the human stories surrounding the event and the cultural attitudes that led to it

Best Cover - City of Last Chances by @aptshadow.bsky.social. The book itself is brilliant - 2 and 3 in the series are on the TBR for this year - but the covers are absolutely gorgeous. Not since Sullivan's Spatterjay covers have I been so taken by book art. I need to know who did these!

Best Setting - Salvagers again. Fucking sue me, this trilogy was written specifically for me. The setting of these books somehow blends magic and harder scifi elements really well while maintaining a laser sharp blade to the neck of corruption and burgeoning fascist uprisings

Best Relationship - Katrina and Shizuka from @rykaaoki.bsky.social's Light from Uncommon Stars. Teacher/student relationships always have the potential to be an emotional powerhouse (Assassination Classroom for example) but as someone who is transgender AND an arts nerd...perfection

Best Character - Boots from @alexwhite.bsky.social's Salvagers Trilogy. A tired and persistent pilot who has already suffered the worst day of her life and somehow acts as the anchor for everyone else. I LOVE Boots so much

There are images from much later in The Taking of Deborah Logan that get referenced a bunch, but I don't think nearly enough credit is given to Anne Ramsey and especially Jill Larson for their performances. Those opening minutes are so powerful in getting you on-side with both of them
