Blue skies for everyone 💙
My book was published one year ago! Through events in CA, Texas, and Arizona, I’ve met incredible people—student affairs staff supporting undocumented students, committed allies , and students affected by terrible immigration policies. It’s been an immense privilege to be in community with you all ❤️

This week I presented my book research about undocumented student activists to an awesome group of students, staff, and faculty at Long Beach City College. I appreciated being in that space, especially given that so many undocumented students start their higher ed journeys at community college✊🏽

After many years of seeing alumni books in the Stanford Magazine, it’s exciting (and surreal!) to see my book featured in these pages.

A few photos from the protest in DT Riverside yesterday. We got there early, stayed for a couple of hours among at least a thousand ppl. After we left, we saw hundreds of people continuing to march ✊🏽

I’m more afraid of ICE taking over my state than immigrants taking over.

This morning I had the honor of moderating a panel about women of color access to reproductive health services, justice, and healing. It was part of the UCR Ethnic Studies Undergraduate Research Symposium funded by the Mellon Foundation ✊🏽♥️

Yesterday I found out that I was promoted to Full Professor. Even though I knew I was in a good position for promotion because of my second book, I’m still kind of in shock. Only 3% of Full Professors in this country are Latina, so this feels like a big deal.

Three book talks in Texas last week, and honestly it feels amazing to share the stories of undocumented student activists.

Texas friends! I’ll be giving two university talks this week —one at UT Austin and one at UT San Antonio. I’d love to see you! Details on flyers 🦋

Beautiful evening last week at the Cheech that included a book reading and a panel discussion with some of the UCR undocumented alumni I wrote about. En comunidad venceremos ✊🏽

I’ll be giving book talks over the next week at the Cheech here in Riverside and at the Guadalupe bookstore in San Antonio. My goal writing about undocumented student activists was for people outside of the university to read the book. It means a lot to me to share it in these community spaces ❤️

We’ll be hosting my dream book event at the Cheech next week. It will be a book reading and panel discussion with UCR undocumented alumni. HUGE thanks to Alex Espinoza, the Tomas Rivera Endowed Chair, and the Cheech for making this evening possible. So Cal friends, please come through!
