What's the best way to answer "How are you doing these days?" from someone who I hadn't connected with for a few years? But I obviously want to build that connection?

Years ago, a coworker, who was always late to work, joked daily that he needed to ride on a coworker's bicycle handlebars to get to work faster. One day, I gave the tardy coworker pamphlets detailing bike routes and cycling classes. The coworker never made the joke again.
