I went to El Salvador hoping to meet with Kilmar and check on his well-being, and I had the chance to do that last night.

Our courts have been clear: this was an ILLEGAL abduction. I’m speaking now about my meeting with Kilmar and our work to bring him home:

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

It is a necessity.

What's a teacher worth to you?

What's it worth to have someone teach you to read?

What's it worth to have someone kindly explain how to interact with peers?

What's it worth to have someone encourage you? And believe in you?

That's what teachers do. Every. Single. Day.

So, what's it worth?

What if we completely rethought what it means to be a teacher?

Not just as an overworked, underpaid professional juggling a thousand tasks—but as a skilled expert, a guide, a creator of transformative learning experiences.

What’s one thing you’d change about the way the profession is structured?

Education is filled with complex, messy, and “impossible” problems. I happen to love those.

The way I see it—there’s always a way forward. Sometimes it’s about shifting perspect or about breaking old rules. But solutions exist, and I’m here to uncover them.

The pandemic didn’t break education. It revealed what was already broken.

→ Inequity in resources.
→ Outdated teaching models.
→ The unrealistic demands placed on teachers.

We saw it. We lived it. Now—what are we going to do about it?

I've been a social studies teacher my whole career.

A few years ago, questions began to bubble up for me.

Especially after January 6th.

And I wrote this essay. Which I feel will resonate with many in this moment.

It's in my book, Notes from the Classroom.

In my 20+ year career innovating in education, I have seen ONE thing that sets successful innovators apart.

Ability to build relationships.

You can have-
🔹️ideas
🔹️processes
🔹️commitment
🔹️creativity

But if you can't build relationships, you're not going to get anywhere.
