Writer. Debut novel The List of Suspicious Things out now. New novel out next year. https://linktr.ee/BBQatno9?utm_source=linktree_profile_share&ltsid=b303eb23-dff5-47e2-8848-2214d3452ca1
I am so happy that The List of Suspicious Things is a Library Reads pick for December in the US. This is v special to me because it’s chosen by librarians & as everyone who has read TLOST knows, libraries & librarians play a huge part in the book (as they did in my formative years).

The proofs of my second novel The Barbecue at No.9. arrived at my house today. I’m quite emotional. Not only are there quotes from two of my favourite authors (Marian Keyes & Rachel Joyce) but it just is incredible to me that this is my life. Feeling all the feelings.

The US reviews for #thelistofsuspiciousthings have started to come in & honestly? I’m so chuffed! I had this idea that maybe the novel would be too ‘northern’/specific to appeal & I couldn’t have been more wrong so far. I want to get the words from the Kirkus review tattooed on 😆 #booksky

Thrilled (and pretty shocked TBH!) that The List of Suspicious Things has been shortlisted for the Glass Bell Award this year. It’s such a phenomenal shortlist, including some of my own favourite reads of the year (and my mate @sarahbrooks.bsky.social ) #booksky

I also read This, My Second Life by Patrick Charnley, a debut out next year with my publisher @hutchinsonheinemann This novel is so many things, a crime story, a family story, a moving account of what it is like to live with a brain injury. I really loved it.

Been v.busy writing this past couple of weeks so just 2 books for the round up, but both doozy’s.

My fave TV show is Somebody Somewhere & my fave character is that of Joel, played with the utmost humanity by @jeffhillers and his memoir, Actress of a Certain Age is just gorgeous

Ey up. It’s Yorkshire Day, so it would be remiss of me not to point out that The List of Suspicious Things is my love letter to the county. #booksky

The Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook @Writers_Artists was an essential tool for me in finding an agent & understanding publishing. I’m thrilled to have written for about my path to publication, dealing with rejection & setbacks along that path for the 2026 edition. Out on 17th July

What are your memories of Live Aid?

I asked lots of people this when I was writing The Barbecue at No9* & some of those memories have found their way into its pages.

(*Live Aid forms the backdrop to the events in the novel, links in bio)

PS check out my very glam perm 😆

Though it’s more of a backdrop to the story in The Barbecue at No.9. than the main event, going to see #liveaidmusical yesterday reminded me of what a huge deal that day in 1985 was. (BTW I’m so happy that there will be both @Waterstones & indie editions of #thebbqatnumber9 😍)

It’s time to put this beauty on the shelf.

On the night, I got to thank the unsung heroes of the publishing industry - the bloggers and reviewers.

And I also got to dedicate the award to my dad. As it’s Father’s Day today I just wanted to dedicate it here too.

We miss you Dad

I can’t believe I get to do this again.

I’ve put a little outline below, & it’s available for pre-order now via the link in my bio

Haven’t been in to see my mates at Waterstones in Taunton for a few weeks so popped in to say hello and sign their tower of TLOST’s! Expert bookseller Dave is back from paternity leave (and bought me this milk bottle badge!) so they’ll be flying out the door already! #booksky

What a beautiful day in Fowey at the festival here - one of those days where I can’t believe I get to say ‘this is my job.’ The session was impeccably chaired by Veronica Henry who is the loveliest of authors, with a generous, warm audience #booksky

Tomorrow is the British Book Awards, AKA The #Nibbies @_thebookseller in London & I am SO EXCITED I am packing already (my dress is Miv Blue™️) I’m probably supposed to be all cool about it, but I’m afraid I’m just not! I probably won’t sleep a wink tonight #booksky
