Baking in the sweltering heat, Altai ignored the urge to wipe sweat from her face, to head inside, or drink water if she could. Instead, she did her stupid job of digging with her stupid shovel in the stupid desert to find some stupid treasure. Her debt was piling up, so she couldn't afford to take a break. Did her bosses even realize that this dig site was probably drying up? How much more treasure could be buried in a place that's been dug up tirelessly for the past twenty years? She wasn’t even alive when they started digging here. What would that mean for her and everyone else who was under the employ of The Usicoru Excavation Company?

Altai did not waver; she knew the power coursing through her could get her through anything. If the world stood against her, she’d knock it on its back and keep moving. The creature’s sudden timidity gave way to hostility. Even with ample time to act, Altai let it come at her. She needed to know how powerful she’d become. The illusion of invincibility shattered as its claws rended her chest. The sharp pain of being cut into snapped Altai back to her survival instincts. She slammed a fist into its hideous face, causing it to lose its footing and stagger backward. She clutched her chest, but no blood flowed. Looking down, there was no wound at all.

The beautiful light cracked all at once, then broke into glassy shards, fading from existence just as suddenly as they’d been created. Instinct told her the creature was behind her, so she turned. This time, she saw it. A lanky, large creature with a spine too big for its own body. Its body a pure white with veins of gold, the color scheme ill befit the monster. It backed away from her, beady eyes widening, mouth hanging open with surprise.

If there was one upside to the situation, at least the sand had entered the chamber first. It broke her fall… somewhat. Unfortunately, the downside of that was getting sand everywhere. Sand in her mouth, her nose, hair, clothes, probably even her brain. Both of those were footnotes compared to the throbbing pain through the left side of her body. Altai groaned and attempted to drag herself out of the sand. The sand had some attachment issues, apparently, because the pile wouldn't let her go.

These legends still exist in a fashion as Biometals, small floating metallic faces that contain their memories and personalities. Biometals allow certain individuals to "Mega Merge" and become Megamen, which is a transformed state that draws upon the power and abilities of those legends.

For the book I am writing right now, #ShatteredSun, the main influence was Megaman ZX. While ZX is SciFi and part of a huge timeline, I wanted to do standalone fantasy with similar story elements and a new angle. Some characters were designed as tributes or analogs to some of ZX's cast.

Altai's lot in life is to dig for treasure in the scorching heat of a sun shattered by an ancient cataclysm. When she unearths a bone belonging to the sun goddess Naledi, Altai is tasked with resurrecting her to repair the sun itself.

Bass.exe was my childhood edgelord. Meeting him for the first time in Battle Network 3, the build up of the Undernet shaking beneath his power, and that he was only defeated because he was fooled into nerfing himself. My teenage ass loved him.

Hey all, I'm Jenn. I primarily write fantasy, but elements of SciFi always seem to wiggle their way into my stories.

My main WiP is Shattered Sun. The title is literal. It's got trans rep, tokusatsu transformations enabled by the bones of dead gods, and a silly girl in a grimdark fantasy!

Morning, Bluesky.

I just woke up and I'm very sleepy. I spent most of the night debating if I should read more @magicariot.com despite needing to get up early. I've compromised and I'm bringing the book to work for my lunch break.

This is a flammin' fun read so far. Can't wait for Full Bloom!

Shattered Sun is a story about a world where a cataclysmic event killed the gods and shattered the sun.

An indentured servant finds out her destiny is to restore the sun and uses the Sun Goddess' bone to transform into her Champion, but the Champions of other gods are determined to stop her.
