Yes, I think of this as adjusting the aperture! We look at details, then we take a big offered look, and adjust back and forth. We need to integrate multiple perspectives.

If you see him in the lobby, ask him for his socials! We all need his updates.

You’re going to be so disappointed if you don’t see him at breakfast tomorrow. Admit it.

Maybe Celsius?

But also it’s picnic weather in Fairbanks!! …compared with current temps in Verkhoyansk, Russia. 🥶

Although, full disclosure: I have used a slow reveal of a worked example to teach things like the US traditional algorithm for subtraction, and follow up with worked examples. But maybe I’m doing too much! This gives me more to think about.

Yes, I agree that the slow reveal of a worked example can make it an overly scaffolded experience. I think the questions do the work of drawing attention to features the way a reveal would, helping students to chunk within the worked example.

Hibbing is just churning out cultural exports!
November 11, 2025 at 2:59 PM
Oh, were those all from Hibbing?? New game!

Then let me add... oops, I went to add what I thought was the most interesting name, and it turns out they are a director of adult films. So instead I add this, via wikipedia:

"Bazooka and Tripwire, fictional G.I. Joe characters, were born in Hibbing."

And Prince! And this slew of people that I didn’t realize were MN born/bred.

So weird! RIP the JetBlue BOS-MSP flight. I assume one day I’ll get the Sun Country experience. Survival tips welcome.
November 11, 2025 at 2:09 PM
Tbh, not sure why I haven’t watched it. It’s not that I’ve avoided it on principle. I have to assume that you feel the same way about the Mighty Ducks. Which is why we will host movie night. I swear you’ll have a better experience watching it with childhood fans. Or a worse experience. One of those!
November 11, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Okay, fair’s fair. My house is quite literally on the Mystic River, and I’ve never seen that movie.
November 11, 2025 at 2:03 PM
…sounds like a great learning experience for all! 😂 And also I have heard that it’s lovely in every way. (Every Icelandic student I’ve had has been lovely, too.)
November 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Okay, looks like you were also host to the Grumpy Old Men franchise. So two franchises!

Also Iron Will was filmed in northern MN? I LOVED that movie as a kid. Apparently we watched a lot of cold weather movies.
November 11, 2025 at 1:58 PM
Yes, I googled them a while back because I thought Ben had sent me fake travel details for a trip to visit us.

Also: weirdly, Boston has Sun Country use the international terminal. Make of that what you will.
November 11, 2025 at 1:53 PM
You live in MN, man! Get it together! How many movie franchises take place in your hometown!

I volunteer Ben to host a movie night next time I’m in town.
November 11, 2025 at 1:51 PM
As kids, we watched the Mighty Ducks movies over and over again. There was a line in the second movie about how “Greenland is full of ice, and Iceland is very nice.”

That airline’s name feels DEEPLY aspirational. ☁️
