It's art so there are no right or wrong answers, I just want students to be conscious of the choices they are making in their work and engage in some constructive self-criticism

#teachered #growthminset A5 I ask questions a lot while giving feedback to get students thinking about the choices they are making with their projects. This often gets students to arrive at the place I was trying to steer them towards in their process

#teachered #growthmindset A4 I base my assessments on participation and effort and engage in formative assessment while the students are doing their projects. It would not be fair to grade on anything else at this level for an art class. I try to give as much feedback as possible before they finish

I also tell students there is no such thing as "perfect" in art or in life and I think that gives them the freedom to make mistakes and learn

#teachered #growthmindset A3 I always model new assignments and in the art room, that means doing a drwaing or painting that I am asking students to do. I point out where I made mistakes, where I could improve next time and it shows them that no one is perfect.

#teachered #Growthmindset #artsed A2 I use the "power of yet" with my art students all of the time. Some students think they can't draw and I tell them with practice, patience, and perseverance you will. I also show artist backstories and early work to show everyone starts somewhere

#teachered #growthmindset A1 I use the "power of yet" when talking to my students all of the time. you can see the difference when they really hear what i am saying- You just haven't done it yet, doesn't mean you never will!

#A5 #teachered #sped consistency is key. Behavior management systems should be in place and consequences should be equitable. discipline is not a one size fits all situation and should reflect the individual, not just the action.

#A4 #teachered #sped I ask students what they feel they need to be successful to get them thinking about the answer and to feel comfortable answering it out loud. I also listen to the answer and implement what they tell me to the best of my ability and resources even if it is outside my content area

#A3 #teachered #sped #arted in my art class I always have alternate assignments or modified assignments. for example- themed coloring pages or this week we were doing value drawings and for some students I drew out the still life scene for them and they added the shadows and highlights

#A1 #teachered #sped I have used similar fidget toys, allowing students to get up and stretch, take short walks with a classroom para, brain breaks during lessons, and I will be getting standing easels for my art room in the near future for those who can't sit the whole time.

#A1 #teachered #sped challenges have included motivation and participation. opportunities include getting students to see value in their art assignments and see how art can benefit their lives
