When I took these photos last year, I was so uncomfortable with flash. I knew what I wanted to achieve, but my camera - my closest friend - suddenly seemed like a stranger. I didn’t necessarily make the photos I wanted to, but I learned some big lessons in a short period of time

New lens. I found myself wondering how/what it would do with direct flash at night. The results weren’t what I hoped, so I switched off the speed light and experimented in other ways.

One of my favourite little unexpected things about Tofino is how pet friendly the place is - many of the local resorts are super pet-friendly. This means people often bring their dogs to weddings. Skye’s humans planned their winter wedding specifically so that Skye could attend.

The photos that do the best for me on social media are almost always wedding photos, and secondarily couples photos. That's what the algorithm likes, I guess. But then people ask - do I shoot families? Do I shoot them the same as weddings. I surely do.
