(2/2) The facility was originally constructed during World War II, shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941, as a bomb shelter for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The East Wing was built over the bunker to conceal its construction from the public.

Make no mistake about it, ballroom is a ruse. He’s expanding and updating the underground bunker: The bunker underneath the East Wing of the White House is known as the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC). It serves as a secure shelter and communications center for the president. (1/2)

statistically I know exactly one person who is a progressively minded ace sharpshooter (but he grew up in a conservatively minded rural family where he learned shooting skills and later as an adult changed his political viewpoint) so yeah, it all tracks (as the young people would say)
