I LOVE and cherish Taylor Swift when she is on her pen game (and will therefore be withholding the majority of my thoughts on TLOAS until I feel I have something properly constructive to say), but boy do I hate it when she revels in these lazy and deeply racialised "not like other girls" tropes

Pouring one out today for the OG Gym Teacher/English Teacher couple

A new newsletter is live! Containing my thoughts on recent releases from Lorde, Wet Leg, Little Simz, Wolf Alice and of course, Hayley Williams. I don't think Hayley HQ are on BlueSky yet, but I'm pretty pleased with my 'Ego...' playlist...

OBSESSED with the thought of all the boomer dads who thought they'd get a headstart on leaving glastonbury having to rush back from the exit because Robert Smith has turned up 😅 What a sensational choice of guest

Bellowing along to Drivers License in a sea full of women and teenage girls at Olivia's first Glastonbury in 2022 is easily in my top five live musical experiences ever. How utterly amazing it is to have Olivia Rodrigo and know shes this masterful only two bloody albums in

Shout out to EC's Femi Koleoso for a beautifully nuanced speech about joy, topped off by a glorious showcase of talent from the grassroots youth clubs. Special special band

Queen of understanding the assignment, it's our Jade! Perfect balance of new songs, revamped Little Mix bangers and an onstage persona that is equal parts polished and vulnerable. Zero notes 🎇

It would seem a new 1975 era is afoot!

Self Esteem! We will always stan a pop star with this level of commitment to the full theatrical vision. Vocals on point, and v fun to hear old songs rendered anew to suit the staging of 'A Complicated Woman'

Seeing people you know live their dream never gets old, and English Teacher really make it easy to feel proud. Great set, great new song and then a spontaneous 'Yorkshire, yorkshire' chant? I'm not crying you're crying 🤍💙

The star quality of Wet Leg really seems to be ramping up a notch with this era. Still a few clunky silences between songs, but the new tracks sound great; muscular and measured and balancing out their earlier tendency to race straight for a chorus. Exciting!

The Fat Dog/CMAT/Jalen Ngonda clash is my first weekend nightmare, but all three appear to be crushing it. CMAT and her band have the best playful energy and it's so fun to see them rally such a big pyramid crowd

I'll take a queue, but we really cannot continue to normalise this kind of pricing

In an attempt to remember to use BlueSky, an update: I've arrived in California! Having a wonderful time exploring Stanford's beautiful campus, meeting new folk and generally acclimatising to a place where a summer wardrobe can still get airtime in September. Very excited to get postdoc'ing 💪

Two weeks ago today, I finally passed my PhD Viva and became a Dr. It's been a journey and a half, but I'm really grateful to be an academic and so excited to see where this research takes me next 🎊
