I have family in Boulder, and the power company is preemptively turning off the power grid because of the wildfire risk with the high winds. The Marshall Fire on 12/30/21-1/1/22 burnt down whole subdivisions (1,084 structures). This is the new normal -- the climate has changed.

I work for a university and in previous roles hired lots of foreign language teachers. We regularly used our US Representatives office when a visa application was extraordinarily delayed to help the faculty be on campus for the start of classes. Was especially necessary immediately post 9/11

Lived in the Henderson House co-op at Michigan. One of the women signed up to cook lunch for the term; had never cooked before. The planned meal was soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. She buttered one side of the bread and put it on the inside cheese side. She made 30 charred sandwiches.
