Hands down the worst commenter tonight
Ubuntu is a good choice. There are a lot of options which can lead to decision paralysis so I'd suggest just picking one and switching if you encounter frustrations that another option would solve. Keeping your files on a separate drive or NAS makes switching and upgrading much easier

Something to be aware of is that on Linux you typically don't install software by going to the website and downloading an executable. The most common method is to use your distro's package manager / software center / app store. Unfortunately there are exceptions and it is confusing
