Charmed by simple pleasures: digging in the garden, nature, books, and home. Writes for young readers. #gardengrewpeas
Good morning, from the garden. Those are tomato cages, nested together in the background. The persimmon was the centerpiece for the bird’s Thanksgiving feast. #gardengrewpeas #gardening

Trees up. House is a disaster. Daughter and I are ignoring it, having a cuppa Yorkshire Gold, and watching Elf.

The day after Thanksgiving always feels like another holiday. No cooking, little clean-up, delicious leftovers, time to relax and read. #gardengrewpeas #butterflies

Almost done with my part of the meal. The pumpkin pies spent the night on my dresser - far away from Sugar the cat. Wishing you all a #HappyThanksgivingDay! #gardengrewpeas

The texture of the bricks, the painted barrel, and way the late afternoon sun lit-up the flowers…I couldn’t pass by without stopping to take a photo. Wishing you all a bright and cheerful week. #gardengrewpeas #flowers

Good morning! Still wet here. The feverfew is looking perky and bright after the rain.

Rains and more rain, I’m happy to say! I’m grateful for every drop. #gardengrewpeas #weather

We had a beautiful time at the Monarch butterfly sanctuary yesterday. When we went a few years ago, hundreds of monarchs hung in clumps from the trees. This time, the docent estimated there were 88 butterflies in the grove. Just 88. 😢 They still dazzled us. #butterflies #gardengrewpeas

There’s a little spot of shade in our sunny yard that I squeezed a wicker chair and a tiny table into. It’s where I sit and watch the birds and butterflies. Sugar loves it too. #gardengrewpeas #caturday

The corgi - wistful as she watches family members bustling in the kitchen, getting ready to leave for work or school. #dogs #corgis

Encouraging voting news, followed by rain. Soft, steady, wonderful rain for most of the day. We had a celebratory meal last night, which ended with apple #pie. #familymeal #gardengrewpeas

There was a gulf fritillary population explosion in our yard this year. So many beautiful and fascinating sightings. I saw more of these too, injured, or simply worn-out #butterflies, still alive, but soon to die. #gardengrewpeas

We walked in a procession from the church, through town, and up the hill to the cemetery for a beautiful #Dayofthedead ceremony.

I pulled up a patty pan squash bush this morning and put in kale: Dwarf Curly Blue and (new to me) Ethiopian kale. #gardening #gardengrewpeas

Molasses popcorn balls, like Mom made us on #Halloween. 🎃 #GardenGrewPeas

The butterfly just emerged from the ghostly white chrysalis on the left, silvery chrysalis below, newly pupated. Upper right, tan chrysalis will open in a few days. #butterflies #gardengrewpeas
