I think that was one of my first big autism hints; I had a lot of anxiety over “what is the normal amount to move my arms well walking”. It still blows my mind that neurotypicals just walk around automatically doing so much with their facial expressions and body movements.

For me, it’s about making a logical grocery list. Looking for grocery items in the order of the aisles is efficient and effective. I also put them on the conveyor belt in groups of items I like bagged together. I also have an autism diagnosis.

True! And late diagnosis is like when you’re playing a multiplayer racing game, and think you’re in first, and then realize your screen is the one with the car in last place, going backwards and stuck in a corner.

Did “Bear Paws” just steal this idea?

I am dealing with this now ☹️ They want medical documentation and forms from my doctor, but with my previous medical trauma and current anxiety, this is a huge barrier for me. I feel so overwhelmed and unsupported.

A frugal life is a great goal, but what we are talking about is the mega rich exploiting the working poor. People are working hard/making sacrifices, only to the benefit of the rich, and are now getting to the point that they’re continuing to work hard and are struggling to afford the minimum.

Well, now I am crying. I’ve been riding the struggle bus a lot lately.

Both. I am able to give myself more compassion and am slowly learning how to meet my needs and ask for support. I also have had huge skill regression since working on unmasking, and feel more frustrated as I realize that needing support does not mean you will receive it.

Since I also sit at a computer like that, I am now trying to figure out if I turn into a cat or a shrimp, or do I turn into a cat, that then turns into a shrimp? 🤯

I think the big difference is that a lot of ADHD traits have a very negative view from society, so finding out that you aren’t just a sucky human, and actually have a neurodevelomental issue, is a huge help to your self esteem, and gives you the ability to be more compassionate with yourself.

I think that would be an anxiety diagnosis 🤣

I always say that high functioning is still very far from fully functioning. I am definitely not a fully functional human.
May 6, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Yes! Spiky autism profiles are real. Yes I can learn complex computer applications easily, but can I feed myself healthy food, or remember to take my medication regularly, or keep up with normal hygiene routines - nope! But because I can mostly take part in capitalism, no support for me ☹️

Question, are you autistic?

Nicole shares here experience with autism, and a lot of what she experiences resonates with the autistic community. She is not saying this list is a diagnostic tool, more of a “if all my posts resonate with you, it might be a good idea to do more research/ get assessed (if possible for you)”

I once suggested neurodiversity training at a workplace for HR and management at least, and was told “we have enough training” 🥺 I can attest…they definitely knew very little about autism/adhd.

I feel like we have so far to go on employers understanding and providing support/accommodations for people with autism. I have such a hard time working full time in an office environment, but what are my choices? Struggling and traumatizing myself, or homelessness? It’s infuriating sometimes.

Autistic folks suffer from a lot of comorbidities. Being autistic is traumatizing (PTSD), super depressing to not be able to connect with a lot of peeps, and like 90% of autistic people have anxiety. Instead of arguing, maybe just listen to autistic people when they talk about how it impacts them.

I come from a family of neurodivergent people (Autism and ADHD specifically) and am AuDHD myself, and found this post fun and silly. I am sorry you found it offensive.
