You won't find a better all-encompassing history of the first months of the First World War than this. An outstanding work by two dedicated historians, using new sources and first-hand, personal accounts from across the globe. Available now from all good booksellers.

Who wouldn't love a Patreon parcel from @pfieldbookshop.bsky.social ?
Three books, wrapped up in old news stories (including the Case of the War-Rocket in 1853), and my very own tarot reading 😀

I gave a talk to the Chichester Cathedral guides the other day about Lt-Col Gerard Leachman DSO. He’s commemorated in the Royal Sussex Chapel and the word ‘murdered’ prompts a lot of questions.

I recently had the opportunity to take the King Albert Medal awarded to my great-grandfather back to Belgium for a visit. Thomas Leeson was the Alien Registration Officer for Blackpool, and received the medal in 1921 for his services to Belgian refugees.

I've just read this book on the first days of WW1 and its immediate global impact in ordinary people, military and civilian. It is outstanding.
