I had a similar experience buying Common Worship a couple years ago from the CoE. Very frustrating. I didn't try workarounds at the time though.

Ugh. Have you tried Calibre to see if you can strip DRM? I feel quite strongly this is ethically appropriate. I did this with all my Kindle books just before Amazon blocked downloading the files a couple months ago and have migrated to using Kobo instead so I own what I buy.
