i read this in year 6 (so i was 11 or 12) we had a special group for "advanced books" for those who had finished all the primary school readers. we also watched the films of what we read.so this along with other cheery 80's curriculum for kids, Z for Zachariah, and Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh
