According to CDC WONDER, the no. of US kids (1-19) killed by guns in the decade 2014-23 was 36,791, so the sports fans would have to ponder their allegiances for more like 25 days at a minute per. To my horror, CDC WONDER was not reachable tonite, for the 1st time ever in my experience.

GUN LAWS MATTER -- tho' not enough. Firearms are the leading killer of US youth aged 1-19; mortality rates even in the "best" US states are >10x higher than in comparable countries. While trashing our laws, let's not forget 2A & awful Supreme Court decisions, laws, & amendments that got us here.

GUN LAWS MATTER - tho' not nearly enough. Firearms overtook motor vehicles as the leading cause of death in US youths 1-19 in 2018. Rates of youth firearm deaths are clearly related to state gun law strength. US rates even in top-rated gun law states still exceed those in comparable nations by >10.

Gun death toll magnitude is clearly linked to state gun law strength, considering intent (homicide vs suicide), sex, and race (Black vs white).

It's important to note that the increased infant mortality in MS is due to increased Black infant deaths only. White infant mortality decreased from 2014-24.
August 26, 2025 at 4:04 PM
The birth rate in MS actually fell over the period 2014-2024. That's why a relatively small increase in infant deaths resulted in a higher mortality rate -- for Black mothers only.
August 26, 2025 at 4:00 PM
Looking at the data presented, the increased rate of infant deaths occurred entirely in Black infants. In fact, white infant mortality went down, increasing the ratio of Black:white infant mortality from an average of 1.8 from 2014-23 to 2.6 in 2024, a 42% increase. This together with ⬇️birth rates.

Firearms are the leading cause of youth death in the US, 20x > than comparable countries. Overturn Heller/McDonald/Bruen; amend FOPA, repeal PLCAA, Dickey,Tiahrt; ban automatic weapons/large-capacity magazines; increase taxes on guns & ammo; require registration of all firearms...to begin.

Agonizingly ironic that it was Richard Nixon who established the EPA (thanks largely to the epoch-making work of Rachel Carson). Always too little, & often too late, but EPA's efforts to understand & address environmental issues absolutely set the standard for the world. www.acs.org/education/wh...

Age-adjusted firearm homicide rate in OK (2018-2023) ~60% higher than in CA, & OK firearm suicide rate >3x higher. Noteworthy that rates of firearm homicide & suicide in CA (2018-2023) were about equal (suicide 30% higher nationwide); in OK, suicide rate ~ 2x homicide. Life MUST be better in OK.

Moreover: the 2018-2023 firearm homicide rate in AR was 3.4 times higher than that in CA. And AR doesn't even have big evil cities.
