I felt these same things to varying degrees. I wish there was a better way of communicating which runs are worth tool spamming, but I guess that is a point of critique for many, the shard economy. Gets to diminishing returns with a hard boss. I love using tools during exploration, less with bosses.

I usually do nail-only fights for my own satisfaction but the design of this boss genuinely made me feel absolutely fine spamming my tools and I thought it might have been the intended way even. Which is nice, I like that, not every boss fight has to be a duel.

Good luck. This was so challenging. But i genuinely believe you clear this, you'll clear anything else the game throws at you hands down. Of course it's very doable (more upgrades help) but it was very challenging.
