Wow! What a trip down a memory lane. It's fascinating how a lot of my habits can be traced back 10 years reading the journal I used to keep.

Local bird of prey decided to have some Christmas Eve feast in front of my yard… Magpies want a little piece of it

I wish I lived in a timeline where BlackBerry Priv thrived and we had a continuous lineage of sliding keyboard phones!

Modern Internet is filled with so many losers and grifters. Hate all these weird impersonation accounts and phishing accounts that use AI art to make it look like it’s an artist reaching out. We live in a weird time where capitalism and internet work together to enshittify everything

Morning coffee routine with the clever dripper. Incredible improvement in drip coffee work flow and disposal. Best of the both worlds of French press and pour over coffee. My recommendation for anyone that wants to improve their black coffee game at home. Oh, beans are from Myanmar Wa Ran Village

I love banana dessert and this was composed of three banana layers. Fried banana cake at the bottom, banana and cream layer in the middle, and banana ice cream on top. I’m always disappointed when banana desserts hold back on the banana flavour profile and this wasn’t that. Banana banana banana 🍌 ❤️

I always lament how weak Calgary’s pasta scene is compared to what’s available in the rest of the Prairies. So many incredible pasta restaurants in Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg! This pappardelle was incredible. Pasta cooked to perfection and the sauce packed with flavour and emulsified just right

Incredible meal at Deer + Almond in Winnipeg. Their fried potato is super interesting mixing in Japanese influences. Fish roe, kewpie mayo, seaweed ups umami but keeps the potato crisp. Kind of reminds me of takoyaki but with potato instead of dough and octopus.

Some things I am not a fan of: the heated steering wheel control location is absolutely deranged. Unless you’re a nerd like I am, I don’t think most people would even know or see it in a rental car like this. I was also surprised to find that radar cruise control is not a standard equipment.

Things I’m mixed about: the piano black interior panels and aluminum are finger print magnets. They don’t look particularly great with use and even though the aluminum is nice to interact with when you’re thinking about it, I was surprised every time I touched it and it was freezing cold in winter

Rental car review: 2024 Mercedes GLA250. I was given this by a lovely lady at the Hertz kiosk that excitedly whispered “this is the only SUV we have left so you’re getting a free upgrade to a Mercedes. My mother had a W204 Mercedes C-Class but I haven’t been in a modern Mercedes since.

Great noodle at Aroma Bistro in Winnipeg. I was pleasantly surprised at the strong ma-la flavour out of the broth. The restaurant is listed as an Asian fusion place and I was initially skeptical but now I’m just impressed. Company paid meal is an essential part of my food journey 😆

On another note, brunch at Clementine in Winnipeg. Incredible restaurant that I return to every time I’m in Winnipeg for work.

I lost my iPad at the Calgary airport, initially I thought someone took it but it’s been 24hrs and it’s still getting pinged by find my network. Praying to god that it’s still gonna be in the airport for me to crawl around the floor looking for it like a truffle sniffing dog when I return in 4 days

Incredible sandwich from King + Bannatyne in Winnipeg.

Soft bread, perfect amount of pickles and overflowing brisket all seasoned to perfection! Pair it with spicy tomato soup and I’m blown away!

This kind of narrative is extremely popular with Elon haters but I gotta reiterate that the general mainstream audience have some wild tastes! It’s essentially not aligned with internet view points like these. I think cybertruck is incredibly dumb, but frankly I think they’re aligned with buyers

My wife ate all the protein in our curry takeout and put the remaining sauce back in. Sinister move.

Great meal as usual at diner deluxe. I like that they actually still serve meatloaf. Something about this dish just makes the dish feel homemade despite all the other restaurant touch points. The recipe at the restaurant clearly changed a bit here and there over the years but it’s still my favourite
