I highly recommend trying KC BBQ before leaving if you haven't (and if you eat meat).

Jack Stack is amazing, but if you're looking for a cheaper option that's still great, Gate's BBQ or Joe's KC BBQ are also good! (Joe's is in KC, Kansas, but it's not too far from KCMO)

Ocean Prime (Seafood), Jack Stack (BBQ, a KC staple, so amazing!), Fogo de Chão (Brazilian), Q39 OR 801 Chophouse (American), Buca di Beppo (Italian, prepare to have leftovers, they serve their food family style), Bo Ling's (Asian), eggct. (breakfast, not too pricey actually), and so much more!

There are so many places to choose from in the KC area in all price ranges. If you want cheaper Winstead's is a great steak burger place and Pancho's is imo great Mexican. (they're open LATE too).

But if you're wanting pricier places to put on the company card you could go to...

So many places in different price ranges, but these are the pricier ones if you wanted to put it on a company card lol

(Winstead's is always a good steak burger place, and fairly cheap!)

Oh! I live in the KC metro area and I've heard of this place because my mom's friends son works there! (I will never go because of the prices 😬)

Awe, poor Eddie got turned on and didn't know how to handle it haha. I'm guessing he went out to buy snacks with the intention to calm down, but then worked himself up more and just ran?

I taught 1st grade for one year (NEVER again), 4th for 6 years, and this is my third year in 5th. I LOVE my 5th graders this year but I know they can be a challenge!

*Feel free to take/leave the advice if you want. Or you can always ask me anything in the future if you want to as well. I love helping out new teachers :) I've taught for 10 years and am still going strong haha (I'm actually graduating with my masters this May!)

"How would you feel if someone insulted/made fun of you in some way, be it appearance/clothing/etc. "Are you doing/feeling okay?" [honestly sometimes checking in emotionally/mentally with them can do the trick].)

3) If possible, build relationships with the kid(s) (this will help them trust you, but also allow you to have a civil conversation with them, "Why did you feel the need to say that?" "Did you think about how that would make me/so-and-so feel when you said those things?" (cont)

2) Keep calm and professional in the moment (I know that takes practice and you just started working with kids, but trust me, showing you are in control goes a LONG way! And I know you probably have relatable experience from being a nurse)

1) Not take ANYTHING personal (I know that's hard to do, but they aren't fully developed and have no clue the ramifications of their words/actions, most of the time they are throwing insults because of instability at home, for attention, or as a defense mechanism to trauma)

Damn! I'm sorry that happened. I teach 5th grade and haven't had a kid throw an insult like that at me, maybe some snide remarks but shit. Some of the best advice advice I can give to working with that age is (see replies)...

This gave me horror flashbacks to when I got my IUD's (I'm on my 3rd one now) put in. Why do the men get anesthetic and pain killers for afterword when getting a vasectomy and women are just told to "breathe deeply", "don't move/wiggle too much", or "toughen up"...messed up and I'm still mad!
