Our country is one ruled by cash. Trillions are moved by road annually. Syndicates of violent criminals pick them off and the likes of Maphumulo are caught in the crossfire.

There were 300 CIT attacks last year. There have been at least six so far this month. Today in Pietermaritzburg a guard was wounded. It is endless.

The van was obliterated by an explosive charge. Her car came to rest nearby. This is the tragic, human toll exacted by a multi-billion Rand shadow world of crime.

She struck one of the men and killed him before his cohorts showered her car in rifle fire. She died in her seat. The same car she beamed with in September.
