In context, this one is also a classic. Dr. Oz is talking about the link between obesity and dementia while obese, demented Don snoozes.

I got to visit with old friend Joe Lansdale his own self (and newer friend Kasey Lansdale) on Joe’s birthday Tuesday night at @poisonedpenbooks.bsky.social. A great time was had by all, as is always the case when Joe’s around. Check out Hatchet Girls, his new novel!

Yesterday I turned in the current book, more than a week ahead of the deadline. Next up: a copy editing gig, then another book with a January 30 deadline. But also about 6-12 other projects clamoring for attention. i need three of me. How did she do it?

A happy accident. I was trying to capture the sunset cloud over the field, and had no idea until I looked at it this morning that the football was there. This was pre-game, and I have no idea where it came from.

I took this when he opened for Jackson Browne in San Jose, CA, circa 1977. At his peak.

I’m watching Valkyrie, a 2008 Tom Cruise WWII movie about a plot to save Germany by assassinating Hitler. I suggest not mentioning any potential current-day situations in which parallel actions might be taken.

To a kitten, everything is a toy. At 2 am this morning, Charmander invented a new game called “Stab the back of Daddy’s neck with all my claws until he banishes me from the room.”

No wonder I’m sleepy.

No particular reason for this post today, except that I love this image, and I'm still grieving over the devastation to the Grand Canyon's North Rim, where I took this photo.

August 13, 1967. My first rock concert. The Who and the Blues Magoos opening for headliners Herman's Hermits. I don't remember which show my brother Michael and I went to. I know after their set in the evening, the Who and Nils Lofgren (in the audience, not on stage) left to go catch Jimi Hendrix.

This week's Substack post: Some stories of author signings that were perhaps a little more complicated than most--but worth it. Feat. Roger Zelazny, Joe R. Lansdale, and Wallace Stegner!
