Adding on to the "get an Apple Silicon Air" chorus - it's an incredible machine. There are no fans in it, so it's completely silent. It will throttle the CPU to keep temps in check so don't plan on, say, converting 4K video at desktop speed, but it mostly handles whatever I throw at it.

GrandPerspective and DaisyDisk will give you a visual representation of the files on your disk/in a folder so you can identify the big ones. I think you have to remove them yourself, but that's trivial once you know what and where they are.
