I was fairly ambivalent until I became a dog owner and now I totally agree with you. We have to give our dog anti-anxiety medication so she can cope with all the bangs. And it’s not just one night - what with Divali, Halloween & Bonfire night, it lasts for weeks (and then starts again at New Year)

Turn Windsor Castle and a Buckingham Palace into our versions of Versailles and the Louvre and tourism in this country would go up providing a boost to the economy

The tourism and economy arguments have been comprehensively debunked…

…the European country with the most tourists is France… 2 of the 3 most visited tourist attractions in France are:

Versailles (former royal palace)
Louvre (former royal palace)

Nah, he wants to be leader/PM and there is no way Farage is stepping down as CEO of his own company

It’s more like the racism has flipped. Back in 1968 there was actually quite a bit of support for Powell amongst the public but the press & political establishment were firmly against him. Now, the press & politicians are more overtly racist than the public

Well into adulthood, my mate thought that tuna was the name for dolphin meat (like beef is cow meat & venison is deer meat) and that “dolphin friendly” on tins of tuna was the equivalent of free range on boxes of eggs

That Brand Finance report has been pretty comprehensively debunked

Does the Brand Finance report on monarchy profitability make sense?
Brand Finance have delivered a report several times that claims to quantify how much money the Royal family makes for the UK. This report…

Why do people always assume we would adopt a US style system if we got rid of the monarchy? There’s plenty of other examples of other systems of elected heads of state which work perfectly well that we could adopt - eg Ireland, Germany, Finland etc
October 19, 2025 at 5:53 PM
The Louvre also used to be a royal palace - quite a lot of people visit that too, I’m led to believe…
October 19, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Even better to have an elected head of state that is separate from the political leadership - versions of this work perfectly well in Ireland, Germany, Finland etc.

There really is no justification for an hereditary head of state
